In my previous article, I was talking about the problems of some craftspeople with regards to craft shows. There are those that just not capable of handling the pressure of harsh criticism, or the disappointment that accompanies a bad sales day. If you are one of these people, you’ll probably ask; what now? You could be doomed to simply showing your crafts to your friends when they visit your home. In addition, you will eventually have a home full of your crafts.

The solution that I suggested to people who can’t take the pressures of craft fairs is for them to get a person that will represent his or her work. These people?s job would be to disseminate your wares for a commission, and they?ll also be in charge of talking to people to arrange for your stuff to be sold at craft fairs. This will be the best medium for you if you feel a bit antisocial when it comes to selling your crafts.

A word of caution, though: Be sure that the representative you hire is someone whom you could actually trust. There are numerous people out there to swindle you, and it is best to approach them with caution at the start. Look for someone who is recommended by another person you already know and trust.

In the same light, know that not all reps will automatically get you. In fact, you should be skeptical of the ones that are too eager, in general. Many reps have experienced dealing with craftspeople whose works were not as sellable as they first thought, you see. If you know a fellow craftsperson that says that it’s a bad place to show off your stuff, look into it some more so that you are certain. You’d want to be careful, but you wouldn’t want to pass up some good opportunities either.

One event that you should attend with great care is the untried and untested craft fairs that are only in their first year. The event organizers in general are going to have a lot on their hands for the first time, and they won’t be able to adequately organize their event as much as the more seasoned ones. Simply put, you may just end up as their guinea pig if you go to these kinds of shows. It’s not advisable.

Over the years, my wife and I have always enjoyed attending craft shows. There are people who would say that this luck is attributed to the fact that we started early; we were really selling my wife’s handcrafted baskets like hotcakes. But then, I don’t think that’s the reason we stuck with it.

We did have a thing going on because of my wife’s natural talent for crafts, yes, but I’m not one to brag but I think I picked up on a thing or two, myself. You will inevitably come across a situation wherein you will be at odds with your partner. It is hard enough when it’s just about some superficial thing like arranging the booth (as I could never arrange the baskets to her liking), but when things were serious like money matters, then things could become really strained. I remember that I used to have some pretty harsh fights with my wife about this.

Going to various craft shows all over the country probably wasn’t the best idea for fun as well, if you would ask our son. When we were starting, we had no choice but to haul him along for the trip. And while he was always the favorite of the patrons and other vendors, I really doubt that his future wife would be able to drag him to another craft show.

It wasn’t the luck that kept us going. Now that I think about it properly, it was far from it. What glued us to the concept of craft shows was the idea of spending time together. Whether it’s getting ecstatic together at how much profit we made, or fighting about trivial things, we got something through craft shows that many couples only dream about: We got to spend a lot of time together.

Sometimes, the concept of the craft show is confused with the common flea market. It is sad, but there are glaring similarities that explain it. The very fact that we are selling items arranged in an array of booths reinforces that fact. Even though many craftspeople know this fact, however, they are still visibly irritated when their customers treat them as such.

One of the major differences between the common flea market stalls and the craft show booths is the very person who made the item on display is usually the one minding the booth. Because they have invested such a lot of time and effort into their crafted items, you can go so far as to say the piece holds a part of their being. Imagine what an insult it is for them when you try to haggle for a piece of their work.

When you find yourself going around the craft shows, look for quality over quantity. Everyone knows that times are hard, but at the same time, we should be aware that craftspeople are already under pricing their own art. If they lower it more, they will end up with almost no profit from the raw materials that they used.

Now, if you are the one showcasing your craft in a show, also understand the side of your buyer. They may not know that you made the items yourself, and they may be haggling as a matter of principle. If you really can’t afford to lower down the price, then politely but firmly say no to them.

Craft shows have always been a time for people to relax and have fun, and there is no point to craftspeople arguing with their own customers. As long as people treat people the way they want to be treated them, then the fair will be filled with fun for everyone attending.

There will be a towns festival on April 17 and April 18, 2009 at the downtown area of 105 S. Shelby St., Blacksburg, SC 29702. This Iron City Festival has been held for the last four years. The family will enjoy the free admission and the diverse activities that the festival feature. There are activities that will range from the arts and crafts display, food and drinks and entertainment.

The vendors will be allowed to set up their booth from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. because the craft show will officially start from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Customers and vendors do not need to worry about the parking space because there is enough parking spaces at the streets and the bank lot. For the vendors there will be enough parking are for them at the designated parking area.

The promoters will not providing for the electricity and water for vendors use. There will be portable restrooms and public restrooms at the community center. Since the Iron City Festival is a street festival it will be located outdoors without cover. Customers and vendors will need to prepare if there be bad weather on that day.

The type of vendors the promoters are looking for are the ones that will display items or products like arts & craft vendors, food vendors, health fair providers, display, demonstration & exhibit participants, cake contest participants, kid parade participants, mascots in uniform for kid’s parade, car show exhibitors. There will also be a space fee of $25.00 for a 10′x10′ and $40.00 for a 10′x20′ space for craft, art and retail vendors who plan to attend this festival. If you plan to sell food then the space fee will be $30.00 for 10′x10′ and $50.00 for a 10′x20′ space

The Iron City Festival will be advertised by putting ads in the local newspaper, having local radio broadcasting, ads in the Spartanburg Channel 7 and ads in the internet. Brochures and flyers will be distributed at the SC Welcome Centers, schools, churches and businesses.

There will be a juried arts and crafts show on April 18 and April 19, 2009. The festival is called the Taste of the Town Art and Crafts Festival this will be held among the selected specialty store at the 1325 Celebrity Circle, Myrtle Beach, Sc, SC 29577. This is a fine arts and crafts show that will be held outdoors without a cover.

There will also be other activities besides the arts and crafts being displayed. All over the festival area there will be stages put up for live entertainment. There will be mimes walking around as well as jugglers, walking on stilts and barber shop quartets.

Vendors will be allowed to set up their booths on April 17 from 4:00 P.M. until evening then on April 18 from 7:00 A.M. until 9:30 A.M. The festival will officially open by 10:00 A.M. on the 18th of April and close by 9:00 P.M.. On April 19 the show will start from 11:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.

Taste of the Town Art and Crafts Festival has a free admission and parking for the public. For the visitors and customers their parking are will be at the shopping center facility. The vendors have about 13 parking spaces located outside the shopping center. RV parking is allowed to park during the day but for overnight parking this will have to be done at the camp area 5 miles away from the shopping center.

There will be electricity provided for the vendors by the promoters without any additional charges but the promoters will not be able to provide for the water. Modern restrooms will be located within the shopping center facility. Tables and chairs will not be provided for by the promoters. Vendors are advised to bring their own tables and chairs.

For craft and arts vendors who wish to attend this Taste of the Town Art and Crafts Festival the space fee is $150.00. Since this is a juried craft show the vendors will need to submit a signed application with pictures or slide of their work and the booth they plan to have.

The Big Creek Greenway is a 6.1-mile with 12 foot wide concrete path that goes through heavily wooded wetlands. There will be a 7th Childrens Festival On March 28 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the Event Lawn, Alpharetta. 7th Childrens Festival is a whole family affair. The admission fee is free for the public. For the parking space there is no fee and there will be enough parking spaces for everyone.
