When purchasing computer furniture, you have two options. You can buy new furniture or used. Obviously, buying used can save you a lot of money.

A large company may go out of business, re-locate, or remodel. Many times these companies will unload all of their used furniture to furniture to dealers at extremely discounted rates. The companies benefit because they do not have to worry about what to do with all the unused furniture and they do not have to hassle with selling the furniture off by themselves.

Many people choose used furniture over new furniture for the following reasons:

1. you can save significant amounts of money versus buying brand new furniture 2. many dealers will paint or refinish furniture to make it match the style of your office 3. Most dealers will negotiate on price since they have a huge mark-up.

There are some things that expert used furniture shoppers do when shopping:

1. Get guarantees from your dealer. The furniture is used so you need to ensure that all drawers open properly, cabinet doors are secured properly, the wood is not falling apart etc. 2. Brand matters, even when buying used furniture. Research the manufacture and the brand even though you are buying used from a dealer. You need to make sure you are paying a fair market price. 3. Research the new models of the furniture that you want. It is possible that you could buy new furniture wholesale or direct from the manufacturer for the same or even a better price than buying used from a dealer.

Look for local dealers online or in the yellow pages. It is extremely advisable to look up reviews for dealer before you do business with them. That information is also easily found online. Ask the dealer lots of questions and do your research on the products. Furniture salesman work off commission ” so be smart when you are listening to a sales pitch.

Furniture is one of the most marked up retail products. While this gives you room to save a lot of money when negotiating, it can also cost you a lot if you get suckered into a bad deal. Become an educated consumer!
