If you were out of work or simply looking for a new job, you typically picked up the local newspaper and looked for a classified job in the employment section. The only problem with this is that you are limited to the area that the newspaper is delivered in. If you are searching for a classified job that is out of that immediate area, you went to a lot of trouble to find a new job. All of that has changed.

Due to the development of the Internet, job seekers now have a wide variety of opportunities to view classified jobs. The electronic medium allows the job seeker to view positions available anywhere in the world.

In today’s recessionary world, corporate employment rolls are shrinking at a remarkable rate. Large numbers of highly trained, highly skilled people are on the market looking for employment. Personnel seeking employment are no longer limited to reading the local newspaper, or knocking on doors in the town that they live in. Employment search engines such as Monster.com or CareerBuilder.com allow the job seeker a nationwide or even world wide search for employment.

A growing number of talented people have determined that life in the corporate structure is not what they envisioned. These people have determined that they can work from home on a freelance basis and provide their services to clients who post classified jobs on websites such as GetAFreelancer, Elance, Scriptlance or GetaCoder. Employers seeking either temporary or freelance help have the opportunity to post classified jobs and have qualified personnel to fulfill their requirements

Generic bulletin boards are such as Craig’s List provides classified ads for services, which can be narrowed down by geographic area or the exact talent desired.

One disadvantage to the jobs seeker when searching on line classified jobs is that the talent that the job seeker possesses is also shared by a multitude of others. The job seeker may be one of a few people in his geographic area to have a particular talent but discovers that the talent is shared by a multitude of others on a national or world wide basis. This shared talent while highly valuable in a particular locale becomes less valuable when compared to the entire talent pool available.

Classified jobs on the Internet are not limited to websites dedicated to posting classified jobs. Every newspaper that is available on the Internet includes the classified ads that the “paper” copy of the newspaper contains. Newspapers as diverse as the New York Times, London Daily Mail, Des Moines Register and Knoxville News all contain classified advertisements that are an electronic replica of what can be obtained in the print media. All of these print newspapers contain an employment section.

A wide variety of classified jobs are available to the job seeker through the utilization of the Internet and search engines on the Internet. Geographic constraints are no longer placed on the job seeker when new employment is sought. Employers seeking trained, qualified personnel also benefit from posting jobs on the Internet. These employers receive applications from a wider, deeper pool of job seekers thus enhancing the company’s capabilities.
